Pluscard is a medicinal product that contains two active substances: 100 mg of acetylsalicylic acid and 40 of mg glycine in one tablet. Acetylsalicylic acid inhibits platelet aggregation. Glycine increases the solubility and accelerates the absorption of acetylsalicylic acid as well as protects the gastrointestinal tract against its irritating effects.
Pluscard is used to prevent myocardial infarction and thromboembolic complications. It is indicated in situations where it is expedient to inhibit platelet aggregation. This is the only drug with such composition available on the Polish market in the above indications. The 100 mg dose is considered by the WHO as the basic dose for anticoagulation. It also complies with the guidelines of the European Society of Cardiology and falls within the dose range with the best benefit/risk ratio. Thanks to the use of glycine, the drug protects the gastrointestinal tract against the irritating effects of acetylsalicylic acid, ensuring better solubility and faster absorption. The composition selected in this way makes Pluscard an optimal therapeutic solution containing acetylsalicylic acid, used in cardiovascular diseases, asserts Hanna Wahl – Development Director, Member of the Board of Aflofarm Farmacja Polska.
Aflofarm intentionally introduced the drug in the form of uncoated tablets. Studies have shown that this form of the product increases the effectiveness of anticoagulant therapies. The enteric-coated tablets, popular in Poland, in a dose of 75 mg may be insufficiently effective in some patients due to the risk of insufficient antiplatelet effect.
Cardiovascular diseases comprise the most common cause of hospitalization and deaths amongst Poles. According to data by CSO, despite significant progress made in the field of preventing premature mortality due to this reason, they still account for 46% of all deaths in our country. In most cases, premature heart attacks and strokes could be prevented by proper prevention: a healthy diet, physical activity, avoiding smoking or drinking excessive amounts of alcohol.
Pluscard was placed on the market in March 2018.
